UFC star Derrick Lewis uses gigantic truck to help flood victims in Texas

Derrick Lewis is a massive man with a massive truck and a massive heart.

The UFC heavyweight star, who currently calls Houston home, has been busy helping victims of the devastating floods happening throughout Texas.

Lewis has been documenting some of his good deeds on his social media channels.

“I’ve always been that type of guy that I like to help people more than I like to help myself,” Lewis told MMAjunkie’s John Morgan. “And so I just seized the opportunity. The police, they kept getting on the news and saying that they’re not going to help no one unless it’s a life-or-death situation. Basically, the firefighters said the same thing.”

Lewis briefly announced his retirement from mixed martial arts following a fourth-round TKO loss to Mark Hunt in June in what was a Fight of the Night performance in Auckland, New Zealand. His retirement didn’t last long, however, as the knockout artist is currently scheulded to take on former UFC champion Fabricio Werdum at UFC 216 on Oct. 7 in Las Vegas.

Understandably, preparing for his fight with Werdum is not his top priority right now.

“Right now, I’m really not worried about the fight,” Lewis added. “I’m just worried about making sure my kids and my family is OK and everyone else around me.”
